HEALTH TALKS
Health talk is part of health education, in which members of family or community taught for promotion of health and prevention of diseases.
What is teaching?
- Instructing
- Providing knowledge, verbally or nonverbal, of some sort.
- Increasing or improving one’s behavior.
What is learning?
- Learning is a permanent modification in behavior of a person through any mean.
- Learning can occur due to life experiences, academic study, trial error, & by conditioning practices.
Principles of Teaching are:
- Encourages contact between students and faculty
- Develops reciprocity and cooperation among students
- Encourages active learning
- Gives prompt feedback
- Emphasizes time on task
- Communicates high expectations
- Respects diverse talents and ways of learning
- Readiness to learn by students should be ensured
- Consider the individual differences
- Past experiences affect the learning growth.
Planning for Health Talk:
- Before planning the teaching, CHN should do the assessment of community through the proper tool or checklist or questionnaire or windshield survey.
- After collection of data or problems, CHN should priorities all the problems. And select one by one problem for teaching. Before going to teach to community or family CHN must make the teaching plan & fill it.

Planning of community level health action for one selected problem
Planning is a 2nd step of any program of action. Before planning CHN must do the observation and assessment of the problem, than planning, implementation & evaluation.
- Planning varies/depends on type of problem is selected.
- Following are common points to remember for planning of community level health action for problem:
- Make centre for all activities
- This Center may be BHU, RHC, Dispensary, School Building, NGO”s Office Community, OR Common Conference Hall (Outaq) in community.
- Observation & Assessment of Problems by windshield surveyor family assessment tool etc.
- Listing of problems
- Priorities the problems on criteria of danger & feasibility of solution.
- Analysis of Problem & do following:
- Check the feasibility to solve the problem.
- To know the cultural and spiritual barriers of community.
- Arrange meeting with community head-person.
- To make sure the availability of funds.
- To make sure availability of human resources.
- To make sure the availability of Material Resources.
- To train the volunteers for running and keeping action on.
- To formulate the criteria or method or tool for evaluation of action.
